Bible Verses that Can Be Used in a Wedding Ceremony

Ceremony Pixabay wedding-829139_1920The following are verses of the Bible that you could use in your wedding ceremony. They come from the New International Version of the Bible.

Be sure that whatever verses you use, you are willing to live by them. Don’t make a vow that you are not willing to carry out in how you live together as husband and wife. God takes your vows very seriously, and so should you.

Scriptures to Glean Through for a Wedding Ceremony:

It is a trap for a man to dedicate something rashly and only later consider his vows. (Proverbs 20:25)

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bing them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and good name in the sight of God and man. (Proverbs 3:3-4)

Love and faithfulness meet together. Righteousness and peace kiss each other. (Psalm 85:10)

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. (Song of Songs 8:6-7)

To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. (1 Corinthians 7:10-11)

Be very careful, then, how you live— not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Ephesians 5:15-16, 21)

Additional Scriptures

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but I have not love, I am nothing. And if I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:1-8)

Do everything in love. (1 Corinthians 16:14)

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32)

As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly love, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3:12-14)

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8)

More Bible Verses to Help in the Marriage Ceremony:

Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:5-8)

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. …Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:16, 18)

I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. (2 John 1:6)

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love. (2 John 1:3)

  1. (SOUTH AFRICA)  There is a very genuine solution to that, except by Divine intervention based on earnest praying, love and dedication.

  2. (INDIA) I am a pastor, working independently and I feel that every youth must study this lesson before marriage, which will be very helpful for them.

    1. Thank you Pastor. That truly means a lot to us that you see what we see, in the importance of helping those who are considering marriage some day to realize what God expects of us in marriage. May God bless you as you spread God’s word!

  3. I’ve been in a relationship that has been facing many troubles… but it has held strong for over 6 years. We have a child together and in the good times, speak of marriage. However, I hope that these words can help us through the bad times. Thank you for putting them all in one page!

  4. I’m Pastor John Baho from the United States of America and truly appreciate the great quality job that is being done on this site. May God bless you.
