Fighting Divorce With Prayer

Fighting Divorce with PrayerAre you separated from your spouse? Does reconciliation look hopeless? Perhaps you’re even divorced. If so, there’s no doubt that can make marriage restoration look impossible. But God specializes in turning the impossible upside down. He isn’t bound by human restraints. That’s why fighting divorce with prayer should be your first approach to all you are dealing with.

Please know that the restoration of your marriage may look hopeless right now. But that doesn’t mean it is. We’ve seen many, many marriages fully restored, resurrected and given new life! But in each marriage that successfully gets to this place, their reconciliation started in prayer. It started in humility, self-reflection, and then going in God’s direction.

AN AMAZING TESTIMONY OF DIVORCE AND RECONCILIATION

You will find several more testimonies in the topic. The first has testimonies you can pick from to read. And the second is a video testimony:

SURVIVING INFIDELITY TESTIMONIES

A GOD OF SECOND CHANCES

If you are separated or divorces we encourage you to fight for your marriage in prayer. Know that God wants your marriage to be restored. He wants your marriage relationship to be loving and healthy—not torn apart. But He will do little to help you if you don’t lean into Him.

Yes, we know that many who are reading this have spouses who won’t join them in praying. They may be going in a much different direction. It’s also true that it takes two to reconcile. But you have to start somewhere. And you may be amazed at what can happen when you and God join together in fighting divorce in this way.

As you are fighting divorce with prayer, please know:

“Your finest hour is not when everything is going well and you’re on easy street. Truly, your finest hour is when times are tough and you stick it out, and fight for your marriage. It’s when you function under pressure, and make it to the other side—triumphantly. If you’re going through a difficult time, remember that there is no better cause than the person you have sworn to love. There is no more valiant goal than to fulfill the vows you made to your spouse. Though it may feel like your worst disaster, it is when you begin to fight for that cause and that goal that you will experience your finest hour.” (Drs. Les & Leslie Parrott)

And the best way to fight for your marriage is to start down on your knees. At this point you fight—not with verbal weapons being thrown back and forth at each other. That only makes matters worse. Haven’t you seen this to be true?

From this day forward, instead fight in prayer. The scripture comes to mind: “’It’s not by might, not by power, but by my spirit’ says the Lord.” In all humility, look up to God and ask for HIS help in fighting for your marriage.

First:

Get alone with God. Confess your own wrongs to Him. Start with something like this:

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.(Psalm 139:23-24)

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.(Psalm 143:10)

Pray and get into God’s Word—the Bible, so He can talk to you that way as well as other ways. And then line your life up with God’s ways. They most likely won’t be “your ways” of doing things as God tells us in Isaiah 55:8-9. “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts; neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.‘” But God’s way of doing things is the best way of approaching every aspect of life—especially as it pertains to reconciliation.

Yes, it’s true; God will not MAKE your spouse work with you to reconcile your marriage. We don’t want to give you false hope here. But again, you never know what God can do in and through you if you don’t take it to Him. And not just once either! Persevere in prayer and pursuing God in lining your lifestyle up with His. No matter what happens with your spouse, you can never go wrong in changing your ways to go in God’s way.

Your Prayer Journey

To take you further in this prayer journey (and lifestyle change) here is another prayer we encourage you to use as a launching point. Pray it, change it, and/or add to it. Make it your prayer for this point in your marital journey as you fight divorce with prayer.

Fight Your Marital Division in Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come to you humbly seeking Your forgiveness and help as my marriage is in trouble. First, I want to confess my part that has led up to being here. Forgive me for any unkind words or actions that has hurt my spouse. Please show me anything else I need to confess so I can do so now and in the future. And forgive me for not coming to You sooner for help.

But here I am standing in the need of prayer. You are the only One who can truly help me to do my part. I can’t fix what is broken on my own. I’ve tried; and I’ve failed. I also can’t run away or hide any longer. I know it won’t be easy to do what you direct. But I know it is the right way and that you are a good God who loves me and my spouse.

I acknowledge that with You ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE; and NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE with You. So, I stand on those promises. I also want to ask that You open my mind and heart so I recognize Your Truth. Please work within my spouse’s life and heart so he/she recognizes your Truth, as well.

Next, please work within me, and eventually us to apply it to our situation (when and if my spouse eventually gives into Your promptings). Help us to be honest and transparent with each other …and with You. I admit I’m a little scared to start this process. I don’t want to be hurt, and I don’t want to hurt my spouse. And in the areas that I do want to hurt my spouse, please work with me so I release it all to You.”

Additionally:

In an act of releasing and submission to God open your hands and pray:

Now, God, In Jesus Name I release my past to You and open my heart to what you have for me and eventually to us as a couple in the future. Heal us, O God. Work within us individually. Search our hearts, and cleanse us from any unrighteousness. And then FILL US WITH YOUR HOLY SPIRIT as You take me and then us on this healing journey. For I ask all these things in Your matchless and Holy Name, Amen.

  1. Thank you Lord, for Cindy & Steve, and Melodee and all the tireless others behind this ministry. Please bless them and continue to strengthen them in this vital work that they do. All glory to you, our Lord God.

    1. Amen for confirmation to what you said about this ministry. Steve & Cindy and Melodee as well as the rest of this ministry have done a great work for the Lord in restoring marriages and keeping families together.

God is using this ministry to pull down strongholds that have held people bound for so many years and “The Word” is making them free to become a power house for Jesus, who said, “whom the Son makes free is free indeed for we shall know the “Truth and the Truth will make us free.” Jesus said He is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but by Him.

  2. I have been fighting for my divorce before the divorce papers were served by my husband to me. Now we have finished 2 rounds of counseling yet he is determined and adamant for divorce. He even dislikes our child. He lost trust in me. He no more loves me anymore. I cried, apologized but everything is in vain. His parents are searching for another partner for him. I am broke, hurt and pleading before God day and night. It is the 2nd time he is leaving me but now he served divorce papers. He doesn’t even want 3rd counselling he just wanted divorce and be done with me. He is not even communicating with me. He blocks me if I communicate or mssg. He is bitter hearted, full of anger, poisoned…. I ask your prayers on Dec 15 is our 3rd counselling I don’t know whether he will come or not. If he goes I will be alone and single mother till God seperates us through death. I miss him badly.

    1. So sad to read this. I know what you are going thru. With the family going against you that is making it even ten times worse! What could have caused all this?? Oh my God! Please have mercy on her and help her.

  3. Praise the Lord!!! I found my way back to this ministry. I had lost contact because I could not remember the name of this ministry. But I give God all the glory!!! because “The Holy Spirit” brought all things back to my memory.

I had contacted this ministry back in 2017 dealing with me and my wife Rosie’s separation when she left me on June 23,2017. I have been faithfully standing and believing God for my marriage almost for 5 years now coming this June 23, 2022. Now my wife Rosie has filed for a divorce and I received the divorce papers on February 4, 2022, last month.

She said there were two other steps she would have to take before the divorce is finalized, 28 days from the time I received the divorce papers then the 3rd step will be an additional 45 days before the divorce in finalized, which if my math is right will be on April 18, 2022, which means I have literally 38 days for God to save my marriage. I always said for me to save my marriage but the “Holy Spirit” said only God can save my marriage.

God, I know you said in Jeremiah You are the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for you?
My answer to you Lord, is there is nothing too hard for you to do. You brought my wife Rosie into my life on March 12, 2013 and I fully believe that you will keep us together. I am not moved by the situation my marriage is facing because you told me to walk by faith and not by sight.

God, you know the only woman I have been intimate with was my wife Rosie on June 23, 2017, the day before she left me. Lord, thank you for giving me strength to wait on my wife to come back almost 5 years now and I am still standing on “Your Word” walking by faith and not sight.

Thank you Melodee for standing by me since 2017 for God to restore my marriage. It has been a very long time but am fully persuaded that God can do all thing and He specializes in doing miracles.
Please keep us in your prayers. Joseph & Rosie

P.S. – Thank you Steve & Cindy and all the rest related to this ministry please be blessed today.

    1. We thank God He is working in your life in different ways and pray that He continues to answer prayer–especially concerning your marriage. You have blessed us with your kind words, and pray that Rosie sees the good within you and is once again attracted to you.

I don’t want to give you false hope but I want you to know that we’ve seen God help to restore marriages that were troubled for even more years than yours. Keep looking to Him; ask Him for any additional insights as to what you can work on within yourself that could help your relationship if you do reconcile. (We all have stuff to work on.) And keep praying. We join you in prayer.

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ —to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11) “May the Lord direct your heart into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” (2 Thessalonians 3:5) And: “May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.” (Jude 1:2)

      1. Please pray for my daughter and her husband who are getting a divorce, which is supposed to be complete in August. They have been married for 7 years and have a 2 year old little boy Benjamin who was a miracle baby. My heart is broken. My daughter will be devastated by this as she has no steady job. She will lose the car and a place to live for her and the baby.

        1. Yes, Deborah… I count it a privilege. This is so, so sad. I pray for you too and Benjamin who is innocent in all of this. I pray the Lord helps them to see how they can sew their differences together so nothing and no one separates them. I pray that He makes them aware of what they can do to bring reconciliation and healing. And through all of this, I pray your daughter will be strengthened and that her every need is supplied. May eyes be opened to the wrong that is being done here. Benjamin didn’t come miraculously into this world to be thrown into chaos, sadness, division, and neediness. May God minister within all of this situation to bring peace, joy, unity, and His sufficiency according to all their needs. May their eyes look to Him! I’m reminded of the scripture: “Even in the darkness light dawns for the upright…” (Psalm 112:4) Again, may they turn their eyes upon Jesus, and follow His leading. He is our God of reconciliation. May it be so, Lord Jesus; may it be so!

  4. Please help me pray as my husband has filed for divorce. I pray for restoration of our 20 years of marriage; our 15 year old son is utterly broken and so am I.

God, only you can heal this marriage in the name of Jesus through your mighty works.

  5. Thank you for these articles and prayer points. I’m praying for my husband’s salvation and praying that will lead to restoration of our marriage. I just received divorce papers and it hurt but I know God has the last say,I pray that God’s will be done I’m my life and marriage in Jesus name!

    1. I add my prayers to yours that your husband opens his eyes to see Truth and true love–not the love that the world gives that glitters but has a false bottom leading to Hell. Also, I pray: “May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.” (Jude 1:2)

In addition: “This is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ —to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11) “May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” (2 Peter 1:2)

  6. Thank you for this ministry. Will someone PLEASE acknowledge that you are praying with me? My wife left me for the second time in three years. Last time, she was tricked into going to a health commune by an internet guru who said they were working for the Lord. They controlled her movement, when she could eat, and worked her in the hot sun all day and then indoors until 11 pm. (I learned all this after the fact, as they supposedly didn’t let the women call their spouses.)

After much prayer, she eventually wisened up, came home, and we went through Christian marriage counseling. We did very well for a lttle over a year, and then she stopped praying with me, and would just look at her phone during church. She then became convinced that evil powers were going to trap city dwellers (we don’t even live in a big city) and an another internet guru convinced her to move out of the city to an unknown commune again. She is convinced that God has told her not to live in town with her husband,

She texts once in a while, but hasn’t texted “I love you” for a month. I continue to pray every night for restoration. She was and is my best friend. It seems like my prayers (which I won’t ever stop) are agitating her spirit, because sometimes her texts are very mean. I just respond with love. I am called to love her like Christ loves the church. I’ve forgiven her. I’ve told her that. So far nothing. But Faith is the evidence of things unseen. My prayers continue. Thank you for joining me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

    1. Yes, JRM, I prayed for you, and am sure others did too… just didn’t say so. And I’m praying for you too. (Also, you may want to make a copy of what you wrote here and post it on the Marriage Missions Prayer Wall that you can get to on the Home page. Many, many others will pray for you, as well. They may not see your prayer request on an individual page, but the Prayer Wall has a lot of activity every day.)

I’m so sorry that you are going through this. It’s so, so sad. I pray that your wife will wake up–that she will stop being influenced by those who have agendas that do not line up scripturally. Jesus tells us that we are not to separate that, which God has put together–husbands and wives. Your wife is being led astray. May God open her eyes to this and her heart to embrace instead, His truth, and you as her husband. And may God give you a peace that passes understanding as you look to Him and rest in the fact that as you give your cares to Him, He works all things together for good. I pray the Lord directs your steps as you lean upon Him. May you experience His love and care. And may the Lord minister to your marriage relationship in ways you never imagined before. He is our redeemer and the Lover of our souls.

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ —to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11) “May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” (2 Peter 1:2)

  7. Please send me and my wife Lisa an extra special strong prayer. My name is Brian and I’m trying to move heaven and earth to salvage our marriage and family. Thank you.

  8. Please pray for my family. I will do whatever it takes to avoid going through a divorce. I love and care for my bride very much and did not treat her well for many years. I am repentant and am living a transformed life now. We have 2 daughters that are 15 and 5. Nothing is impossible for our God to fix when we submit to His ways. Thank you.

  9. Please pray for me and my husband, as he has filed for divorce. Please pray that we both heal and that we can heal the past together with God in our hearts and marriage. I do not want the divorce. God, please work through me in Jesus name amen.
